Stuffed Mushroom Casserole

Mushrooms: The star ingredient of the dish, typically large white or cremini mushrooms, cleaned and stems removed.

Filling: A creamy filling usually consists of ingredients like cream cheese, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic, herbs (such as parsley or thyme), and sometimes cooked sausage or bacon for added flavor.

Toppings: Additional toppings can include grated cheese (such as mozzarella or cheddar) or breadcrumbs for a crispy finish.

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to the temperature specified in your recipe, usually around 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Mushrooms: Clean the mushrooms with a damp paper towel to remove any dirt. Carefully remove the stems from each mushroom, creating a cavity for the filling.

Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, chopped herbs, and any additional ingredients like cooked sausage or bacon. Mix until well combined.

Stuff the Mushrooms: Using a spoon or your hands, fill each mushroom cavity with the prepared filling, pressing gently to pack it in.

Arrange in a Casserole Dish: Place the stuffed mushrooms in a single layer in a greased casserole dish, ensuring they are not overcrowded.

Add Toppings (Optional): Sprinkle grated cheese or breadcrumbs over the stuffed mushrooms for added flavor and texture.

Bake: Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 20-25 minutes, or until the mushrooms are tender and the filling is golden brown and bubbly.

Serve: Once baked, remove the stuffed mushroom casserole from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
